For: Students in grades 9-12 who wish to improve their writing and to learn journalism techniques from professionals. High School Journalism Workshop July 10-14, 2000 Regis College Weston, Ma. The safe and secure environment of the college's 168-acre suburban campus only 12 miles from downtown Boston, offers the ideal setting for summer study. The college's facilities, including a swimming pool, gymnasium, and fitness center, will be open to students enrolled in the workshop. Schedule Writing in the morning; photojournalism and layout/design in the afternoon.  Morning Monday: Overview - Elements of a good story. Tuesday: Interviewing techniques - Developing the story; Writing for the Internet Wednesday: Sports as news; Sports as feature; Copyediting; Writing captions and headlines Thursday: Writing editorials and reviews Friday: Surveys; Proofreading; Story ideas Afternoon Photojournalism: Students wishing to learn photo techniques may choose this course. They must come with their own cameras and film. Layout/Design: Instruction in how to use PageMaker. Evenings Lecturers from various Boston area newspapers will speak.
